Samsung Announces 19″ USB Only Monitor

Posted in Gadget Information by Ryan on February 22nd, 2007

According to reports, the 19-inch SyncMaster 940UX will be axing the DVI and VGA inputs in favor of a USB 2.0 connector, which means you can finally do away with those flakey USB to VGA adapters of days past. Slated for a May release, the display should sync up with Windows XP initially, with Vista drivers (no OS X love?) to follow shortly thereafter. No other details regarding contrast ratio, resolution, or whether a 0.25-page installation manual will be included is currently available, and more importantly, we’re not so sure how your CPU is going to feel about its newfangled processing duties when you plug this sucka in. Still, Samsung claims between “three and five” of these monitors can be plugged in and used at any given time based on the amount of processing requirements your applications have.

iPod + Vacuum Tube Speakers = Great Audio

Posted in Cool Inventions, Gadget Information by Ryan on December 28th, 2006

So, you got that iPod for Christmas, and as you read this, you’re probably filling up that 60G harddrive with questionably obtained music. But now, what to play it on. Surely those buds aren’t going to do the trick, and computer speakers just won’t cut it.

Fortunately, there is salvation for the audiophiles out there with a desire to hear those boss MP3 tunes in all their glory. With the Triode-Tube iPod Speakers, you’ll be pumping your digital music through some sweet vacuum tubes, which present a warm and more “organic” sound. They also claim to soften the digital distortion that can come from compressing the files.

There is one tiny drawback to obtaining these handy dandy wall-shaking, noise-polluting, angry-phone-call getting monsters. It’ll cost you $3,999.95!

The Hitch is a great new technogeek gadget that will allow the transfer of data from one iPod to another iPod. It also works great to transfer files between any two random USB mass storage devices you may have lying around. Go from digital camera to iPod or USB thumbdrive to external hard drive, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Thinking of getting a Zune?

Posted in Cool Gadget News, Gadget Information by Eric on November 16th, 2006

Tired of rabid iPod fanatics who believe technology ends at Apple? Sick of people waving their little white boxes around as if anyone really gives a damn? Or maybe just have money to blow and want to try something different?

The Microsoft Zune

Well, in that case, the gadget freaks at Gizmodo have some extensive coverage of Microsoft’s recently released Zune.

First, you can read the full review of the player.

Still think that you need to have an iPod to be accepted by society as a whole? Then here’s a comparison of the two players.

A digital audio player is nothing without a good interface to your PC, so here is a comparison of iTunes and Zune Software (come on, that’s what they call it?). Here is a an image of the two interfaces side-by-side captured by someone at Gizmodo who likes The Killers just a wee bit too much.

Too lazy to read through all of that and just want some straightforward questions answered? This Zune Q&A might be just what you want.

And, finally, if you get off on unboxing porn, then this dirty Zune on Zune unboxing gallery is just for you. Eww, I bet they’re wirelessly sharing more than just files in this one.
