Prepare your Legos for War

Posted in Gadgets for Kids by Eric on February 27th, 2007

While I’ve always been more of an Erector man, these cool little weapon add-ons for Lego by BrickArms are making me want to go buy a set.

Lego RPG

The sniper rifle is by far my favourite.

They also have some custom Minifigs if you don’t think your current Lego crew are up to packing such realistic heat.

Wonder if they’ll release a series of realistically battle wounded Minifigs next.

If your ready to dismantle your old SNES controller, Mark Feldman has created a wonderful video tutorial to turn that gaming artifact into a brand spanking new wireless controller for the Wii. Sure, you could just get an adaptor, but for show-offs, it is wireless all the way, baby!

Time Spelled Out

Posted in Cool Inventions by Ryan on February 23rd, 2007

art-lebedev-verbarius-clockArt Lebedev may be best known these days for its various display-ridden peripherals, and the delays and uncertainty surrounding each, but the prolific design firm’s got plenty more on its plate, to which it’s now added the Verbarius electronic clock. As you can see above, the clock does away with the usual time-telling tools in favor of spelling things out, in five different languages no less. What’s more, it changes up its verbiage each time you ask it the time, displaying variations like “forty-five minutes past four,” “fifteen minutes to five,” “four forty-five”, and “a quarter to five.” This being Lebedev, of course, they’re also taking their time to build up anticipation in the device, with the clock supposedly set to only begin shipping in November. You can get your pre-orders in now, however, with a discount price of $158.25 available to those who order before September 1st, after which it’ll set you back about $180.

Samsung Announces 19″ USB Only Monitor

Posted in Gadget Information by Ryan on February 22nd, 2007

According to reports, the 19-inch SyncMaster 940UX will be axing the DVI and VGA inputs in favor of a USB 2.0 connector, which means you can finally do away with those flakey USB to VGA adapters of days past. Slated for a May release, the display should sync up with Windows XP initially, with Vista drivers (no OS X love?) to follow shortly thereafter. No other details regarding contrast ratio, resolution, or whether a 0.25-page installation manual will be included is currently available, and more importantly, we’re not so sure how your CPU is going to feel about its newfangled processing duties when you plug this sucka in. Still, Samsung claims between “three and five” of these monitors can be plugged in and used at any given time based on the amount of processing requirements your applications have.

Unlike most cellphone charms, this one actually has some functionality other than getting caught in the fabric strands of your pocket. Keep your favorite headache reducer or sinus clenser at easy reach.

Mac makes Business Card Trading Hip

Posted in Cool Inventions by Ryan on February 16th, 2007

On 1/11 at the MacWorld the NewSoft Presto! BizCard Reader 5 for Mac OS X was released. It is a product dedicated to those that need data all over the world, that can access the contacts database at any time and to be able to add anything to it easy and fast, with language barriers set off.

You may be disoriented not knowing what this product is about and what can it really do. Well, think of a scanning device that would read your business cards using the Smart Field Identification Technology (SFIT) and would allow you to send each text to the needed column to create your complete contacts database. Using the OCR engine, the NewSoft Presto! BizCard Reader 5 features a smart Search Manager tool that would help you find your information in a matter of seconds.

System requirements are 128MB ram, 80GB hard-disk space, Mac OS X 10.2 or later and the USB port. For the $130 you will get a software CD-Rom, the USB cable, the scanning device and a calibration card.
