Are you as excited about your data as he is?

I don’t know what to think about this USB drive. Sure, it’s kinda funny to see a dog mercilessly humping one of your USB slots, but if the drive makes as much noise as it seems to in the supplied video, I think I’ll pass.

USB Humping Dog

Maybe I’ll get one as a gift for my friend that enjoys receiving crap from places like Spencer’s. Oh, man, hahaha, he’s just such a wild and crazy guy. Yeah, he loves his S&M teddy bear figurines and greeting cards featuring really fat people. If it wasn’t for the fact that he’s unemployed and doesn’t have a girlfriend, he’d never have time to window shop there every single time he’s goes to the mall (which is pretty much every day since he has nowhere else to go).

Do Electric Guinea Pigs Dream of Digital Carrots?

He walks, he runs, he hides, he eats, and he’s looking for your affection. He’s Gupi, the latest in the never ending advances in digital pet companionship. Lightyears ahead of those damn Tamagochi that kept refusing to eat and dying, this furry critter uses sensors to map your living dwelling and run around, hides if you ignore it, must be feed a “magic carrot”, and will interact with other Gupis if they are introduced. He’s soft too!

This little critter will set you back approximately $70, but that is a steal compared to the upkeep of a real guinea pig, who will just sleep and poop. This one makes thirty different sounds!

iPod to iPod with nary a PC in sight

The Hitch is a great new technogeek gadget that will allow the transfer of data from one iPod to another iPod. It also works great to transfer files between any two random USB mass storage devices you may have lying around. Go from digital camera to iPod or USB thumbdrive to external hard drive, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Replace Your Wii Straps

Posted in Cool Gadget News, Gaming Gadgets by Eric on December 16th, 2006

Have you had one of your Wiimote straps break yet?

If not, great, but if you have, as have many other poor, unfortunate people out there, then fear not, you don’t have to go through some cumbersome replacement procedure.

In fact, all you have to do is fill out this simple Wii Remote Wrist Strap Replacement Request Form over at Nintendo’s support site. Make sure you have your Wii handy when doing so, as you will need to enter your system’s serial number. It’s on one of the stickers on the bottom of the unit. I already ordered 2 replacement straps since one of mine already snapped and the other I no longer trust.

As you can see, the newer strap is thicker and, hopefully, safer than the old one.

If you’re just not feeling the love for the pain white straps, though, you can always get yourself a “custom” strap.

As if Insect Collectors Weren’t Creepy Enough Already

Posted in Worthy Sites by Eric on December 15th, 2006

Mike Libby of Insect Lab takes insect collecting to the next level by meshing real insects with assorted parts from old watches and circuit boards to create these very visually interesting cyborg insects sculptures.

(Yeah, I can’t pronounce it either, but it looks badass.)

These would make a great gift for one of your harder to shop for friends. I know I’d love to get something like this.

Check out the rest of the collection which includes spiders, butterflies, cicadaes, dragonflies, beetles, bees and wasps.

They’re definitely not cheap, though. The beetle pictured sells for $400, for example.

Are Wii Ready For The Oldtimers?

Posted in Uncategorized by Ryan on December 14th, 2006

As a youngster, I remember going on vacation to visit relatives and having to settle for playing my Aunt and Uncle’s old Atari 2600 to pass the time, knowing I had a Genesis and a stack of games collecting dust some 1500 miles away at my house.

Now, according to a survey conducted by Harris Interactive it has been revealed that 52% of grandparents and 68% of baby boomers who celebrate the holidays would be excited to receive a technology product as a gift come 25 December. And at least half of that group, 27% of grandparents and 34% of baby boomers, said they would like nothing more than to receive a portable videogame system.

So perhaps in the years to come, instead of my kids having to sit around playing ancient video game systems while visiting relatives and pining away about what they have at home, they’ll be able to enjoy the most current system. Or worse (and perish the thought) they’ll have to wait their turn while grandpa tries to finish his current mission on his favorite game.
