Wolverine Claws and a Bunch of Goofy Poses

Posted in Cool Inventions by Eric on September 30th, 2006

I’m currently trying to decide what to do for a costume for this coming Halloween and seen stuff like this guy’s Wolverine claws and suit are great inspiration. And besides that, they’re just pretty badass. Wish he had a video clip of them in action, though.

He’s definitely got the pose down, but did he really need to take 800 pictures of himself in it?

Of course he did! I would have.

HD DVD comes to the Xbox 360

Posted in Cool Gadget News by Eric on September 29th, 2006

Suffering from feelings of inadequacy after learning that the PS3 would come with a Blueray drive, the Xbox got to work designing an external HD DVD drive for itself. Well, maybe that’s not exactly how it happened, but I like anthropomorphizing my technology.

The drive will work on both the core and the premium versions of the 260, so you needn’t worry if you don’t have a hard drive to get the HD DVD drive working, but regardless of that, why on earth did you get a core system?!

And to keep new buyers from realizing they have nothing to play on the drive once they open it, MS has come to an agreement with Peter Jackson to include his movie King Kong as a pack-in. Makes sense since Jackson is apparently working on a future Halo game, though not Halo 3.

How to Carry a Small Readable Library with You

Posted in Cool Gadget News by Eric on September 27th, 2006

I’ve been wanting something like the Sony Reader for a very long time. Sure, sometimes it’s nice to sit down with a real book and get lost in the story for hours on end, but when you find yourself with only small amounts of time to indulge in reading, having a small device such as this that can store a large assortment of reading material would be incredibly convenient.

Sony Reader

If you’d like to see more pictures, Engadget has a nice picture spread. As the pics show, the reader is about the size of a book, except thinner, and using electronic paper technology gives you a much more comfortable and book-like display than an LCD-based device.

Most importantly, it will be able to read DRM-free PDF, TXT and RTF formatted files as well as it’s own BBeB format, so there is no need recreate your entire e-book collection in a new proprietary format. And when you’re in a noisy or distracting place, it also plays audio files so you can tune out those annoyances and focus on your book.

Check out the rest of the unit’s specs and Sony’s not entirely unreasonable retail price of $349.99.

It will be available October 31st of this year.

A Hub of Fright

A lack in USB Hub variety got you down? Do you want to plug your peripherals into something truly unique and horribly unwieldy?

Then why don’t you make yourself something like this?

And when you’re done synching your mp3 player, you can stick it in your kid’s room and scare a few years off the poor child’s life. It’s a win for everyone.

Microsoft Admits to Xbox 360 Hardware Problems

Posted in Tech Industy News by Eric on September 23rd, 2006

If you’ve been hesitant to get yourself an Xbox 360 because of all the stories circulating about how often they fail, especially after warranty, then fear no longer. Microsoft has finally admitted to there being serious problems with units manufactured before January 1, 2006. Now I’m not too sure how many units from that run are still being sold, if any, but this news should set some minds at ease. Microsoft will attempt to repair, or if repairs are not possible, will replace the units if you call them at 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

I have been wanting to get one for myself but was waiting until just such a response was made my Microsoft. Of course, the Wii is just around the corner…

The Keyboard that Costs More than Your PC

Posted in Neato Gadgets by Eric on September 23rd, 2006

If you’re in the market for a new keyboard and the latest offerings from Logitech and Microsoft haven’t caught your eye, then may I suggest the 2000-DT-TB-USB from Stealth Computer?

The 2000-DT-TB-USB Keyboard from Stealth Computer

This thing is so badass it doesn’t even need the marketing jackals to invent a flashy name for it. And forget the flimsy plastic casings we’re used to, this thing is made from “a highly rugged, stainless steel case and industrial silicone rubber pad, ensuring NEMA 4X protection.” I had never even heard of this NEMA standard, but it makes me hot either way.

It brings to me fond memories of my old IBM Model M. I sure miss the deafening clatter that thing would make as my fingers worked their way over the keys.

Though I do think the 2000-DT-TB-USB is priced a bit steep at $1195.00 when you can settle for a Model M for considerably less.

Bringing Dangerous Toys into Your Home

Oh hell yes. I can’t remember how long I’ve thought to myself, “I really want a remote controlled, flying toy helicopter that I can fly inside my living room. At last my wish has been fulfilled. Well, I don’t have one, but at least I know such a thing exists. Micro Mosquito helicopter

They just need to add a missile launcher attachment and possibly a cannister of napalm.

I must have one.
